Lucy tunes up
TELEVISION'S greatest action woman, Lucy Lawless, is exchanging her breastplates and thigh-high boots for bobbi socks and bubblegum in the Broadway production of Grease!.
Tough-as-nails Lucy is shaking off her Xena image to be Rizzo, leader of the sugary-sweet Pink Ladies. The role, made famous by Six Degrees of Separation star Stockard Channing, was landed by Lucy after she joked with Rosie O'Donnell on her hit show. "We were talking about Grease! and she said, in that tough accent she puts on, 'Sing uz a song, babe'. And it went from there."
Lucy says she's only ever been in a school musical, but reckons if she can learn her lines for fast turn-around television like Xena, then she'll have no problem. "There's only two weeks for rehearsals and previews, then I'll do the play for seven weeks."
